Communication and Marketing Manager of SHEKOU DESIGN MUSEUM

Job description In the last 35 years, China has achieved a better life for hundreds of millions of people. Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta region have played a big role in this history, and Shekou can be considered its cradle. 

Shekou will continue to pioneer, as it sets the stage for a new quality agenda in design: moving from mass production and repetition to ingenuity and invention; from making money to creating value. As a collaborative project between CMG and V&A, The Shekou Design Museum, housed in a new building by renowned architect Fumihiko Maki, will present, explore and support design as broadly as design can be imagined, as future-oriented as design itself. The museum will serve a large, curious, and engaged audience. It is due to open in early 2017. 

To devise and direct the PR and Marketing strategy for the Shekou Design Museum. To generate positive and exciting media coverage leading to and following the opening of the 
Shekou Design Museum, raising awareness of the Museum in China and internationally. To develop and implement specific communications campaigns in support of its activities and to meet agreed visitors targets. To work closely with the Shekou Design Museum team, the Head of the V&A Gallery at Shekou and the Head of Press of the V&A in London to ensure that all joint public announcements are planned and delivered effectively and in a timely manner. 

1. To develop and implement imaginative and effective marketing and communication strategy and campaigns, leading to the opening of the Shekou Design Museum and in support of specific exhibitions and activities coinciding and following the opening, making full use of a wide range of media. 
2. To communicate effectively and build excellent contacts with media representatives, nationally and internationally. 
3. To manage the brand image of Shekou Design Museum. 
4. To act as the main social media coordinator for the Shekou Design Museum, regularly posting relevant content on the Museum’s social media channels (weixin, weibo etc.), and contribute to the overall social media strategy. 
5. To contribute to the development and supervise the Shekou Design Museum web presence and digital output (e-newsletters, blogs) 
6. To contribute, together with other relevant colleagues across the museum, in identifying targeted audiences (local residents, international visitors, families, tourists, etc.), and to develop and deliver specific communication and marketing campaigns with appropriate content, language and visual identity.

Requirements Array
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent).
  • Fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and English.
  • Demonstrable communication and marketing experience, particularly in developing and implementing effective marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrable experience of media relations work, preferably in the culture and arts sector, and proven achievements in the field.
  • Familiar with how media operate (including online and social media), preferably in the arts and culture sector, with an existing range of contacts.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication skills with good attention to detail. Copywriting, audio-visual, editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Experience of print and web production and in working with designers.
  • IT literate with specific experience of using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with relevant databases and packages.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to develop effective relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage a number of projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team and under pressure and/or with tight deadlines and to deliver projects successfully.
  • Ability to think creatively and to work independently.
  • Genuine interest in the culture sector.
